Each of the four Gospels has its own purpose and readers. Therefore, even when they record the same event, what they select and emphasize differs. If we force these differences away, we lose the voice of each Gospel; if we magnify only the differences, we miss the word that carries the one truth of salvation. The best reading is to respect each one’s emphasis while entering into the light of the truth in which they illuminate one another.
